Family lands in Como
The Bartlett family story begins on this land in Como, Mississippi.
In 2014, Marshall was driving meat to Memphis chefs out of a homemade cooler built into the bed of a pickup truck.
It was not polished. It was not scalable. But it proved something important: people could taste the difference when meat was raised, butchered, packed, and delivered by the same farm.
That pickup route became the beginning of the Home Place Pastures you see today.
The story stretches back more than 150 years, but a few turning points shaped the farm, the butcher shop, and the membership boxes we ship today.
The Bartlett family story begins on this land in Como, Mississippi.
Marshall returned to the farm and started building a new path for the family land.
The farm began turning early customer demand into a more complete pasture-to-package system.
The team brought USDA-inspected slaughter and processing onto the farm.
Home Place Pastures grew from regional deliveries into a larger membership community.
Today, families across the country stock their freezers from the same farm.
To connect families with regenerative agriculture, we had to do more than raise animals well. We had to control the step most farms never get to control: turning livestock into finished, sellable food.
So we built our own USDA-inspected facility on the farm — a plant designed to keep the work, the quality, and the accountability close to the land.
The plant, the store, and the work around this farm have always been about more than selling meat. They create jobs, feed neighbors, and give other farmers a path to bring better food to market.
Keeping the farm, plant, packing, and store close together means more of the work stays in our community.
The Farm Store & Eatery gives neighbors and travelers a way to meet the farm in person.
The work here also supports food bank efforts and helps more people access real farm-raised food.
Our facility gives other farmers a way to process livestock and sell finished food with more accountability.
